The Chicago Sun-Times is not only reporting the news this week, but also making the news! The recently promoted Managing Editor, Chris Fusco and our Editor-in-Chief/Publisher, Jim Kirk, sat down with ChicagoTonight’s Eddie Arruza to give unique insight into the inner workings and current direction of Chicago Sun-Times.

In addition to talking about Chris’ recent promotion to Managing Editor, Jim and Chris share their thoughts on the challenges facing the media industry, future of news media and where the Sun-Times is headed. And where is that future moving? Online.

Both experts agree that, while they will continue to focus on the growth of the print side of the paper, great efforts will be implored to grow the brand in the digital market. Chris talks about how they will need to leverage the multi-media capacities, attack stories specific to their platform (print vs. digital) and ensure that the website “looks as good as the paper” in order for the brand to succeed online.

You might be wondering, “with a lot of effort moving to the building that digital presence, will the bold journalism take a back seat?” Both Chris and Jim say absolutely not. Chris’ investigate background brings great experience in excellent reporting and a continued belief and emphasis on the importance of sustaining the story-breaking journalism that is the Sun-Times. Jim similarly assures the viewers that the paper will continue to be the paper for anyone who “lives, works and plays in Chicago”. The boldness that epitomizes the brand and excites its readers will not be lost.

Do you more insight into where this pair plans to take the Sun-Times? What problems are facing the print industry? Why Chris Fusco was the man for the job? Or even if you are curious about the status of ownership of the SunTimes, watch the full interview
